When you first start the AIP diet, it’s easy to think that any sort of dessert is out of the question. But here’s a bunch of AIP cakes that prove, you can have your cake and eat it too!
What is AIP baking?
It’s baking but with all AIP ingredients. That means it’s grain, egg, dairy and refined sugar free.
Can you have chocolate on AIP?
Nope. But you can have carob which a delicious substitute. All of the AIP recipes listed that say chocolate just mean carob.
Is vanilla extract AIP?
Nope. Vanilla extract is made with alcohol which is an AIP reintroduction. You’ll find these recipes use vanilla powder or vanilla extract that’s AIP compliant (meaning alcohol and gluten free).
Are bananas AIP?
Yes! Most fruits are AIP and bananas are commonly used in baking. The not only act as a binder but also add natural sweetness.
Are sweet potatoes AIP friendly?
Definitely. This may be confusing as white potatoes are not allowed during the elimination stage. White potatoes are a nightshade however sweet potatoes are from a different family and are fully AIP compliant.

Yes. It’s a common misconception that sweetener of any kind is not allowed during the elimination stage. However, it’s just refined sugar and nonnutritive sweeteners (like aspartame and stevia) that’s eliminated. [source]
