Apple butter has always reminded me of fall. While it’s still quite warm here in San Diego, I’m already making my favorite fall recipes. I was super excited to make AIP Apple Butter recipe because it’s been missing from my life for a long time now. Store bought apple butter is usually filled with AIP no no’s like sugar or corn syrup. This recipe is made of only 5 ingredients and sweetened with honey. A few tablespoons of this stuff tastes great when it’s spread over a yucan crunch cracker.

While I love apple butter, I wasn’t about to sit and watch it cook on the stovetop for hours. Making this recipe with the slow cooker , may take a long time but it’s a pretty independent recipe. You really don’t need to hover over it. The slow cooker just takes care of it for you. It’s a really low maintenance recipe. Just fyi, I use the Hamilton Beach 6 Quart Slow Cooker.

Every slow cooker recipe I found online was for pounds and pounds of apples. I eat apple butter like a treat. I’ll smear it on a cracker every few days so 5 cups of apple butter just wasn’t going to work for me. While this recipe is a small batch, it’s a lot for me. I ended up splitting the apple butter into 1/4 cup servings and then pouring them into Half Pint Wide Mouth Mason Jars. I put one serving in the fridge to eat right away and the rest in the freezer.

You make this easy 5-ingredients AIP Apple Butter recipe by throwing the apples and spices into the slow cooker and letting it cook. It’s super easy treat! This recipe is allergy friendly (gluten, dairy, shellfish, nut, egg, and soy free) and suits the autoimmune protocol (AIP) and paleo diets.

Ingredients
  • ½ cup Honey
  • 6 Apples, peeled and roughly chopped (Pears are a great substitute!)
  • ½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • Pinch Salt
Instructions
  1. Add all the ingredients in a slow cooker.
  2. Stir to combine and then cover.
  3. Cook on high for 4 hours.
  4. Remove the cover and then stir.
  5. Continue cooking without the cover for another 2 hours on high.
  6. Once the slow cooker has stopped, use the immersion blender to puree the apples. If you don’t have an immersion blender, you can use a regular blender.
